Time-saving flatwork ironers
give three-fold economy

The IM range of high volume flatwork ironers from Electrolux-Wascator comprises a variety of versions, all
of which offer users high capacity and a number of automated, labour-saving features. Frequency controlled motors steered by a user-friendly panel provide exacting operation and low energy costs.
Only one operator is needed and, unlike comparable systems, the compact units can be placed against a wall rather than in the middle of a room thereby saving valuable floor space. This three-fold economy gives, say the manufacturer, considerable savings over comparable systems.

According to Annette Berglind, Executive Housekeeper at the Radisson SAS Royal Park Hotel in Stockholm, the new
IM 4831 FFS purchased by the hotel last year has meant considerable savings and improved quality. Only two people are needed, working in two shifts, to do a job which previously required four operators.
”The Royal Park is a four star, 212-room hotel and almost all our laundry, mainly bed linen, table cloths and towels, is done in-house in two shifts. As we only have a small laundry it’s important that we process items quickly. The ironer used to be a bottle-neck in the system, but with the new unit, this is no longer the case”, she says. ”It has been set up exactly according
to our requirements and Electrolux-Wascator has lived up to its service guarantees”, she says.
The IM range of high-volume flatwork ironers offers four cylinder diameters designed to process items of
between one and four metres in width. Working speed is adjustable and set according to the residual moisture of the linen.
Items can be taken straight from a high-spin washer/ extractor and fed directly into the ironer. This says the manufacturer, reduces drying costs and cuts workloads. By using a return feed rather than a through feed system the units can be placed against a wall thereby saving valuable floor space.
The largest unit in the range, the IM 64 which has a cylinder diameter of 640 mm and which can be thermal-oil or steam heated, is available in a number of versions of which the most advanced, the FFS (Feeding Folding Stacker), offers automated feeding, ironing, folding and stacking in one complete unit. Items are clipped into place at the front of the machine and then automatically fed into the polished steel ironing cylinder. Its large, 300° contact area means that energy is efficiently concentrated to the ironing process with very little heat loss occurring.
Folded items are automatically counted and stacked into piles and dispensed either on the band at the side of the machine or, for small items, in the tray below. The integrated folding and stacking system also has the advantage that it leaves the feed rollers free for the next item to be clipped in place speeding the ironing process./ins
