Washing machine clean mops give
dirt-free floors and save money

Studies carried out by the Swedish Association of Local Authorities (SALA) show that the cost of cleaning floors can be reduced by up to two thirds by damp mopping rather than using a socket mop and bucket. According to the SALA tests, damp mopping caused less wear on floors, cost less on a per square metre basis and gave better cleaning results than any other comparative method.

In the SALA tests, a floor was first washed using a socket mop and bucket. Later, the same area was cleaned using a washing-machine prepared mop. Results were measured by comparing the time taken to clean the floor and how effective each method was at removing dirt.
The tests showed conclusively that, using the latter method, cleaning times could be cut considerably while wear on the floor surface was reduced, thereby extending its lifetime.
At the heart of the system lies an Electrolux-Wascator, W75MP microprocessor controlled mop washing machine which offers a number of tailor-made washing programmes. Soiled mop heads are washed and cleaning chemicals added at the end of the washing cycle. Final extraction of excess water is precisely controlled, taking seconds to complete, leaving an exact amount of residual moisture in the prepared mop heads.
A prepared mop head can be stored for up to 48 hours. Cleaning is carried out as usual, but instead of merely rinsing the mop head in a bucket of water, it is replaced after a pre-determined area has been cleaned. In this way, dirt that has been removed from one part of the floor is not merely moved to another, giving a better cleaning result. Soiled mop heads are then washed and prepared for re-use.
The SALA tests showed that damp mopping, using mop heads prepared in an Electrolux-Wascator W75MP mop washing machine and cleaning programmes, can cost as little as SEK 0.25 per m2 compared to SEK 0.80 per m2 using the socket-mop method. Cost savings are also possible through reduced chemical consumption as exact amounts of cleaning agents are added during the washing cycle.
It also means that cleaning staff need not work in direct contact with harmful chemicals. In addition, no water is required at the cleaning site eliminating the need to change dirty water and carry heavy buckets.
