The ability of water to conduct electricity is exploited by Electrolux-Wascator in its new generation of tumble dryers. This technical approach is reported to provide more energy-efficient drying, reduced wear in washed garments and less need for monitoring.

In the company's new series of tumble dryers it is possible to choose machines with "Residual Moisture Control" (RMC) as an optional feature. This involves the measurement of the moisture level in the laundry itself and not that of the vented air, as is frequently standard today.
During the drying process a weak current is passed through the wet laundry to a receiver which measures the moisture at a rate of 400 times per second. As the laundry dries, its ability to conduct current decreases and the tumbler stops when the laundry is dry. If a particular level of moisture is required before subsequent finishing of the laundry, this can be programmed in via the control panel.
This technical solution is intended for Electrolux-Wascator's tumble dryers aimed at industrial and commercial laundries.
The requirements in large laundries for ergonomically correct working positions have also influenced the design of the doors which can be opened up to 180°.
To meet demands of the international market, the entire design of the tumbler has been simplified to facilitate servicing and maintenance. For similar reasons it has been adapted to work with different energy systems and can run on electricity, gas or steam.
