(UPM, Helsinki, 20 February 2014, at 9:30 EET) - The Biofore Concept Car, a unique, futuristic street-legal vehicle demonstrating the use of renewable biomaterials in the automotive industry, will premiere at the 84th Geneva International Motor Show, March 6-16, 2014. The car is designed and built by next generation of talent from Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and showcases the versatile use of UPM’s innovative biomaterials.

Pankaboard’s cartonboard grade for paper plates achieves certificate for compostability

/INS. PankaPlex, which is designed and widely used in food service applications, has now been granted the demanding compostability certificate for the substances between 190 and 240 gsm. The tests were conducted and successfully approved by the third party ISEGA Laboratory according to the European norm EN 13432 (“Packaging, Requirements for Packaging recoverable through composting and biodegradation”). The norm defines the test program, conditions and the assessment criteria, which the compostable packaging has to meet.

One of the largest whey powder production plants in Finland recently increased its production by more than 10 per cent without having to invest in any hardware or use more energy in the process. The production plant was able to do this solely by implementing Neste Jacobs’ NAPCON® Suite’s applications for advanced process control (APC) to optimize the critical and energy intensive last stage of the production process.

/INS.Konecranes South Africa was commissioned to erect the main turbine hall cranes for the three new Eskom power generation plants in South Africa. Medupi and Kusile are the two latest coal-fired power stations from Eskom, and Ingula is its most recent hydroelectric power plant. Altogether, four 120/50t cranes and two 265t overhead cranes were installed at these power stations.

/INS. The Finnish company Eltete TPM’s delivery of an automatic paper pallet line to Nagoya in Japan had a dramatic start in June 2013. The line had been tested and dismantled at the company’s factory in Finland and was on its way to the harbour for shipment, when the company got the message that the ship had been lost at sea.
