New emulator for simpler electronics development
PRESS RELEASE
November 1 1996
New emulator for simpler and
less costly electronics development
Production versions of a new emulator for developing complex electronics are now being provided by the American company, Ikos Systems Inc. The VirtuaLogic SLI emulator is based on compiler technology originally developed at MIT, which was acquired by Ikos through the purchase of Virtual Machine Works earlier this year.
Ramon Nuñez, Ikos' President noted, "The acquisition was a strategic element in the development of our next generation of high performance design verification solutions. While other vendors have turned to costly, custom ASIC technology, our proprietary compiler, VirtualWires, achieves better functionality at lower cost by shifting the burden from hardware to the compiler system. The emulator is able to take advantage of commodity field programmable gate arrays, (FPGA's), resulting in an easier to use system at half the cost of competing technologies."
According to Bill Fletcher, the company's director of emulation business development, "The high cost and complexity of emulation technology was a luxury few companies could afford until now. But the increasing importance of emulation in the overall design verification process necessitates its widespread adoption for the successful development of high-end electronic systems."
Ikos System Inc. specializes in the development and manufacture of language based software and hardware simulation and emulation tools. The company's products are designed to reduce development cycles for complex, high performance systems containing multiple ASICS and full custom IC's. The company is headquartered in Cupertino, California, USA, and supports direct sales offices, distributors and representatives worldwide./ins
