Break-through order for portable gunnery simulator
PRESS RELEASE
July 4, 1996
Break-through order for portable,
multi-purpose gunnery simulator
The first delivery of the Saab BT 61,
a man-portable multi-purpose gunnery
simulator based on computer-generated
imagery (CGI), has now been effected
to the Finnish Army. Primarely, it
will be used with 12,7 mm machine gun
weapon systems but, according to the
Swedish company, Saab Training Systems,
it can easily be adapted to other
ballistic or missile applications.
"Based on three decades of experience in military training systems, the BT 61 is a most advanced and flexible gunnery simulator for field-operation. The multi-purpose system can be installed for operation within five minutes and used both indoors and outdoors as a rugged, stand-alone training platform", says Peter Swalander, Product Manager at Saab Training Systems in Husqvarna, Sweden.
The gunnery system is designed to feature a maximum of modularity, enabling modules to be rapidly adapted to meet a variety of different applications. The simulator can be used with such widely differing weapon systems as a 12,7 mm machine gun, a Carl-Gustaf 84 mm RCL gun and a TOW missile.
It can also be used in a distributed interactive simulation network enabling all members of a team under training to participate actively in the exercise.
Furthermore, it is possible to use the system as a conventional artillery trainer with terrain overview presentation, forward observation simulation and sound effects via a loudspeaker system.
The BT 61 simulator kit for gunnery training weighs less than 15 kg and can be operated on 24 V DC. Features include real photographic digitised images, terrain topography, as well as 3D targets and stereo sound simulation.
