"New change machine gives better value for your money"
PRESS RELEASE
5 October 1995
New change machine
gives better value for your money
With a new Swedish change machine it is now easier to change money. It is now possible to obtain up to twelve different currencies from the same machine.
The machine, the Changeomat, is suitable for places where travellers are circulating, for example airports, ferry terminals, railway stations and hotel receptions.
The change machines used in Europe today are designed along the same lines as ordinary cash dispensers. They are often placed facing the street from a bank wall. The customer feeds in foreign currency and receives the country's currency in exchange. The choice is often restricted to five or six other currencies at the most.
Changes all currencies
The machine, which is now being launched by a Swedish company, accepts up to 80 currencies. These can be changed into a maximum of twelve currencies/ denominations. Changing between foreign currencies is also possible.
In Sweden - and elsewhere with comparatively limited tourism - the need to be able to change from the country's own currency is often greater than the other way round.
The new machine is suitable for people both arriving and departing, explained Mr. Fred Dibley of Rosengrens Tann Ltd., responsible for marketing and servicing the Changeomat in Great Britain.
Easily accessible
The machine is designed to be installed where travellers are circulating, e.g. ferry and bus terminals, train stations, airports, hotels, banks and post offices etc.
The change machine is available during the opening times of the post office, train station or airport. It is never completely unguarded and does not therefore require the same armouring as unguarded round-the-clock machines, stated Mr. Börje Nordin, managing director of Changeomat AB in Sweden which developed the change machine.
For this reason it is called the "lobby machine" and, according to the manufacturers, only costs half that of a conventional change machine. It takes up less space and is also cheaper to install and maintain.
The new machine is equipped with a colour screen where the operating procedure is described in three stages and in several languages. The manufacturers are anxious to make the changing procedure simple and easy to understand.
The whole of Europe
Exchange rates in the machine are updated in the machine's inbuilt PC, or from a central computer. Information and statistics based on the operator's requirements can also be recorded.
The Swedish post office and a Norwegian shipping company are the first to use the new machine. Rosengrens has well-established market and customer contacts throughout Europe and marketing is in full swing. /ins
