New ISO cylinders conform to international metric standards

Two new series of cylinders from Bimba Manufacturing Company solve interchangeability problems by conforming to internationally recognized ISO 6431 and 6432 standards. The ISO 6431 cylinder also conforms to VDMA 24562 dimensional specifications. Designed around a lightweight extruded aluminum profile body, the ISO 6431 cylinder resists corrosion and wear and has an expected service life of 3000km the company reports.

Six bore sizes range from 32mm to 100mm with stroke lengths available in 1mm increments from 1mm to 1000mm. Adjustable cushions and integral flow controls can be specified in any combination at either one, or both cylinder heads. Position sensing is offered using either magnetic reed switches or solid state, Hall Effect technology. The ISO 6431/VDMA24562 cylinder is also offered in a position feedback model. An internally mounted linear resistive transducer (LRT) provides continuous position feedback information and is highly accurate, reports the company. It has infinite resolution, linearity of ±1% of full stroke, and ±0.025mm repeatability. It is designed for applications requiring variable stroke or speed, or where constant cylinder position monitoring is needed. For ease of application, the Position Feedback series features integral flow controls and a sealed cable connector. An electronic controller is available as an option. Six bore sizes from 32mm to 100mm, with stroke lengths of up to 600mm are offered.
The ISO 6432 cylinder complies with international standard ISO 6432. It features a 304 stainless steel body and 303 stainless steel rod and is available in six bore sizes from 8mm to 25mm, with a choice of stroke lengths, cushions and position sensing technology.
The Bimba Manufacturing Company, based in Monee, Illinois, USA, manufactures a full range of pneumatic actuators. The company has four manufacturing facilities in the USA and one in the United Kingdom. Each maintains a full inventory to provide quick support to over 130 distributers worldwide. To assist design engineers, CAD drawings are available for download from Bimba's Web site at www.bimba.com.
