International success for Swedish
paper-drying equipment
ABB Fläkt Industri AB, of Växjö, Sweden, has recently won several international orders for hoods and heat-recovery equipment for the paper industry. These include the firm's biggest order to date for a Fläkt PM Hood from the Swedish pulp and paper company Stora Billerud's mill in Skoghall. Additionally, several strategically significant orders have been won in Southeast Asia. And the firm's Dutch associate company is to supply a hood to German paper manufacturer Zülpich.
The order for the Skoghall mill near Karlstad, Sweden, covers a complete hood with process ventilation, heat recovery, and machine room ventilation for the new KM8 liquid-carton-board-manufacturing machine. The plant has to fulfill a number of strict requirements regarding work environment, so that for instance noise levels are among the lowest in the world for plant of this type.
The KM8 machine is to be used for manufacture of environmentally-friendly, unbleached carton board for the food industry. The machine, supplied by the Finnish company Valmet, will be taken into operation at the beginning of 1997. To ensure high manufacturing quality, Stora established strict requirements regarding production and work environments.
‘In the machine room, noise has been reduced to the very low level of 75 dBA to give the best possible work environment', says Christer Olsson, Sales Manager for ABB Fläkt Industri AB, Växjö.
In 1995 the company won an order for the installation of a Fläkt PM Hood with sophisticated peripheral equipment from the Swedish paper-mill Holmen Paper in Braviken, Norrköping. At the same time, another order was received from the Swedish paper manufacturer Klippans Finpappersbruk for an extensive rebuild including supply of a new hood for Klippan's PM8 paper machine.
International successes
The Japanese paper-machine manufacturer MHI has ordered several hoods for Southeast Asia. In Thailand, ABB Fläkt Industry AB is to supply and install hoods to both PM1 and PM2 machines for paper corporation Advance Agro. In Indonesia, the company will install a complete hood for Pindo Deli, and also supply a hood for Tjiwi Kimia, to replace a competitor's hood which did not meet quality requirements.
Associate company ABB Industrie BV, Holland, has at the same time won an order to supply a PM Hood for a PM6 paper machine to Zülpich Papiermachine GmbH, Germany. Installation begins in April 1996.
In total, over 1,000 Fläkt PM Hoods have been installed on paper machines in 42 countries./ins
