Green economy increasingly important for companies
Green Economy Business Summit 2022 opens up the green economy from a business perspective. At the event there will be discussions on how to ensure adequate economic well-being while reducing the burden on the environment. The Green Economy Business Summit, aimed at corporate management and stakeholders and organized for the first time, will be held on Wednesday, 8 June 2022 at Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre.
The Green Economy Business Summit programme has been compiled together with actors in the forest industry and chemical industry and it will be arranged in connection with the leading trade fairs in the field at Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre.
“It´s important that the major export sectors of the Finnish economy, the chemical industry and the forest industry, have an active discussion on how these ambitious climate goals can be achieved. Finland has a great opportunity to take an increasingly bigger role in developing solutions for the climate challenges in the future”, says Mika Aalto, Director General of the Chemical Industry Federation of Finland. “The green transition is essential and defines our future. The chemical industry strives for carbon neutrality in Finland by 2045 by both reducing carbon footprint and increasing handprint. Sizable investments on research, development and innovations will play an important role in this process as well as the demand for electricity with secure supply, low emissions and internationally competitive prices. By solving climate challenges the chemical industry has a chance to be larger than its size, nationally and globally.”
The summit will be opened by Mika Aalto. The keynote speech Circular bioeconomy – a sustainable source of growth, is given by Jyrki Katainen, President of the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra.
The second keynote speech Chemical industry, green transition and resilience for the EU economy will be given by Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for Industry and Internal Market. Breton will be introduced by Kristin Schreiber, Director at the European Commission who leads the Directorate Ecosystems in DG GROW. She will also respond to any questions raised by keynote speech.
At the event there will be discussions on megatrends that will shape tomorrow’s bioeconomy, economy and circular economy. Ilkka Hämälä, President and CEO of Metsä Group Oy, Managing Director Salla Roni-Poranen of Borealis Polymers Ltd, Jussi Manninen, Executive Vice President, Carbon Neutral Solutions, VTT and Mike Parkington, Home Care Chief R&D Officer at Unilever will participate in the panel discussion How to reach sustainability and climate neutrality at company level. The panel is moderated by journalist Katri Makkonen.
The closing words of the Green Economy Business Summit will be given by Maarit Lindström, Chief Economist and Director at the Finnish Forest Industries.
The Green Economy Business Summit will be held at the Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre on 8 June in connection with the ChemBio Finland event and Helsinki Chemicals Forum for the chemistry industries as well as the PulPaper event for the forest industry. The Centre organises the events in co-operation with operators within the industry; the ChemBio Finland event with Finnish Chemical Societies, Finnish Bioindustries FIB and The Chemical Industry Federation of Finland and the PulPaper event with Finnish Forest Products Engineers’ Association.
