New rear mount bike carrier for vans and estates
PRESS RELEASE
January 19, 1996
New rear mount bike carrier
for vans and estates
It's now possible to transport bikes, simply and safely, on vans and estates, thanks to a new range
of aluminium bike carriers from Thule. The Backpac, which has been approved by TÜV/GS in
Germany, will take up to four bikes, and is easy to fit. No drilling or bolting is required.
Bikes are carried high, so that neither the vehicle's rear number plate nor its rear lights are obscured, making for optimum safety in traffic. The vehicle's tailgate can still be opened even with the carrier in position.
The Backpac carriers are made of aluminium. This means that they do not weigh much and offer optimum resistance to corrosion. The frame holders will take all types of bike frame. The wheel holders have quick-release fastenings that make for simple fastening and are gentle on
paintwork, and optional extras include additional wheel trays and frame holders for a third and fourth bike, and a plastic-coated wire lock. The standard version will take two bikes.
Thule's Backpac carriers are approved for loads of 50-60 kg depending on vehicle model./ins
