Multi-Sample Osmometer increases laboratory operator productivity
Clinical laboratories can achieve noticeable improvements in operating efficiency by using the Model 2400 Multi-Sample Osmometer from Fiske Associates. The osmometer processes up to 20 samples without supervision.
Once the samples have been placed in the instrument's turntable and testing has begun, the operator may literally walk away and attend to other tasks while the processing is completed. This increases the productivity, or hourly output, of the operator, effectively lowering the operating costs of the laboratory.
The Model 2400 uses the freezing-point method of determining osmolality, which is preferred over other methods because of its high accuracy, the company states. Solid state cooling eliminates maintenance associated with liquid cooling baths.
"The reliability and efficiency of this instrument can help laboratories deal with the growing pressures to reduce costs while maintaining or improving their quality," said John Ryder, vice president, Sales and Marketing, of Fiske Associates. "The applications of osmometry across a number of medical disciplines assure that the instrument will be heavily used in clinical situations to support a variety of patients."
Because it requires only a 20 µL sample size, the Model 2400 can be used for a wide range of clinical and industrial applications where sample availability is limited, such as pediatric and geriatric testing and when working with high value pharmaceutical products. Automatic probe cleaning between tests virtually eliminates sample-to-sample carry-over. A Stat-Interrupt capability allows interruption of an automatic sequence to test priority samples.
Microprocessor Control
The instrument's microprocessor control ensures repeatability, accuracy, and automatic calibration. Numbered test results appear sequentially on the unit's display and are recorded by the built-in printer or communicated to a computer through a standard RS-232 connection. The standard computer interface allows automatic data collection for analysis by laboratory computers, eliminating manual input errors.
Osmometry continues to be a cost effective solution in a wide range of diagnostic, monitoring and quality control applications. Advanced uses of osmometry in emergency, internal medicine, endocrinology and urology/renal case situations can contribute to more effective care at reduced overall cost.
The Model 2400 is designed, manufactured and marketed worldwide by Fiske Associates, Norwood, Massachusetts, USA. The company manufactures under an ISO 9001 certified quality program. Local support is available through a factory-trained German distributor./ins
