Stockholm - the Baltic Regions's centre for safety and security
Anti-theft, rescue services, data security, as well as accident and damage protection activities -- these are some of the subjects to be covered in Stockholm in September when Northern Europe's biggest exhibition for safety and security, Protection (Skydd) 96, is held for the 9th time.
The exhibition is associated with another safety event, the International Congress on Occupational Health (ICOH).
Some 30,000 visitors and 4,000 congress delegates from over 100 countries are expected to take part in these two events in the Swedish capital.
One of the innovations of the year's safety exhibition is a much greater emphasis on IT security, with some 25 exhibitors presenting the progress made in recent years.
The packed meeting programme also includes a range of topical subjects such as the economics of safety, quality assurance in the safety sector, crime-fighting, fire protection on passenger ships, as well as the effect of video violence on criminality.
Protection (Skydd) 96 takes place in the same location and on the same week as ICOH, and their common themes are the working environment and safety. While Protection 96 mainly exhibits safety materials and their functions in different applications, ICOH covers the most recent scientific findings in the area. ‘For a good working life', is the ICOH theme for the year.
Accreditation to one of these events gives automatic access to both.
‘This year we are able to offer a prospectus with greater breadth and depth than ever before', explained Bengt Askerbeck, Stockholm International Fairs' project manager for Protection 96. ‘At the same time, we are confirming Stockholm's leading position in the Baltic region'.
In addition to meetings and exhibitions, a range of associated activities is also planned, for example a display of protective clothing in the form of a fashion show, as well as various events linked to security and safety work. Stockholm Fire Brigade will demonstrate a professional rescue.
‘We want to give visitors a complete picture of everything involved in security and safety at the moment', says Bengt Askerbeck.
Protection 96 takes place from 16 - 19 September. The sponsors are Stockholm International Fairs, together with the Swedish Fire Protection Association, the Swedish Association of Local Authorities, and Swesec (the Swedish Security Trade Association).
The ICOH Congress takes place over the period 15 - 20 September and is arranged by the National Institute for Working Life, the Joint Industrial Safety Council, the Swedish Council for Work Life Research, and the Swedish Work Environment Association./ins
