"Ice shoe" - an efficient end to slipping

Laitosjalkine Oy, a Finnish company specialising in the manufacture of work shoes, has developed a new type of winter footwear that efficiently prevents accidents caused by slipping and falling. Each sole of the Laja Icego footwear incorporates a permanent anti-slip device that is easy to engage or disengage with the tip of the other shoe. The new footwear will be launched during winter 2002/2003.

Not all of the anti-slip devices currently available are type-tested, and they often have drawbacks. Usually anti-slip devices are accessories that are attached to the shoe, and tests show that they do not always offer sufficient protection against slipping. They are often clumsy to wear, and more importantly, the device may come loose while walking, which means that the risk of slipping may even be higher than when no anti-slip device is used.

Laitosjalkine Oy's new Laja Icego product range is type- approved and patented in Europe. The shoes feature a new anti-slip device fixed permanently to the sole, which means that it is always ready for use. The anti-slip device is easy to engage and disengage when moving from indoors to outdoors, or vice versa, thereby preventing floor surfaces from being damaged. The mechanism does not have to be activated manually, as it is operated with the tip of the other shoe. The anti-slip device is light and does not add to the weight of the shoe. The attractive look of the device complements the shoe design to encouraging its use.

The product range comprises winter footwear that is also available equipped with a steel toe-cap, resistance to nail penetration and a waterproof membrane.
