Research and Development
SSC Satellitbild R&D strategy takes a starting point in customer requirements for end-user products. Based on this understanding, the company makes a selection among the existing and upcoming satellite sensors and develops products together with its parent company, Swedish Space Corporation. In addition to refining and augmenting the existing product line based on data from the French Spot and the American Landsat satellites, the company has during recent years selected the Russian Resurs satellite as provider of medium-resolution imagery (160 m). This imagery is ideal for making products suitable for overview mapping and monitoring. SSC Satellitbild has also started development of land applications such as forestry by making use of imagery from European, Japanese and Canadian radar satellites.
Under separate agreements SSC Satellitbild will also access data from the upcoming, high-resolution satellites Early Bird and Ikonos 1. In particular the Ikonos 1 satellite with its 1 m panchromatic and 4 m multispectral resolution will enable the entrance into a new era of civilian mapping from satellites.
