Swedish Flooring Company
Gains ISO-9002 Certification

Kährs Trävaru AB, which employs 75 people in Ljusdal in Northern Sweden, has become the first company in the
Swedish Kährs Group of Companies to gain certification in accordance with the international standard for quality
control systems, ISO 9002.

“Certification is proof that we fulfil the high standards required by our customers and that we maintain a high level of quality in everything we do,” says Martin Löfgren, the local manager. “It should be regarded as a management tool for determining, in a uniform way, the way in which quality has to permeate the whole company.”
Martin Löfgren emphasises that the two years of work needed to reach the standards required, involved everyone within the company. Working intensively in 12 teams, the 75 employees have been targeting their main goal of maintaining constantly high levels of quality for everything within the company.

19 Major Requirements
“ISO 9002 currently lays down 19 specific major requirements which have to be fulfilled. These can be expressed as standards for specifying, to the customer, a high level of ability to make delivery at the right time and in the right place,” says Martin Löfgren. “We have made a thorough inventory of all procedures within the entire company - and now these have been documented.”
ISO - the International Standards Organisation - is an international, voluntary organisation which has been in existence for 50 years and which is engaged in promoting high standards.
Kährs Trävaru AB in Ljusdal manufactures “London” parquet flooring, which is a single-strip type of flooring. 80 percent of production goes for export, with Germany being one of its major markets. The Ljusdal factory has 75 employees. The Kähr Group has a total of approx 1600 employees and, in 1995, its turnover amounted to approx 1,500 million Swedish Kronor (equivalent to approx £150 million)/ins
