Advanced packaging machinery

Advanced packaging machinery
chosen by Indonesian paper maker

The Finnish company Haloila Oy, which specialises in the manufacturing of high-tech packaging and materials handling equipment, is to deliver five complete lines for the packaging of paper sheets to the Indonesian Serang Paper Mill.
Valued at some three million USD as part of a 20 million USD deal, the new order represents the company’s largest single delivery to Indonesia.

The nucleus of the packaging lines comprises three Octopus wrapping machines using weather-proof stretch film. Contrary to earlier wrapping machines, the pallet, on which the paper sheets are loaded, remains stationary, while the reel containing the wrapping film revolves around the pallet.
This configuration is reported to make the wrapping of “unstable” products, such as pallets of paper sheets, considerably easier. In addition, there are no centrifugal forces to cause stress or strain on the load or on the equipment.
As the rail which carries the reel of wrapping film can be accurately positioned in the vertical plane, wrapping can start or finish at any height required. The standard Octopus wrapper also includes an automatic top sheet inserter and a gripper, which cuts the film as close as possible to the load.
Film wrapping technology is reported to satisfy the latest environmental requirements, and minimises both packaging material and energy consumption. Wrapped pallets are easy to handle, thus increasing distribution efficiency and reducing energy consumption. The stretch and shrink films used for wrapping are manufactured from plastic materials which can be recycled.
The Serang Paper Mill order was placed with Haloila as part of a larger joint agreement between the Finnish company, the American Lamb Co and the Spanish company Pasaban SA. The consortium will deliver all machinery, including conveyors, and equipment required for the finishing and packaging department. The total order is worth approximately 20 million USD.
