Portable Handsfree cuts installation costs and increases flexibility

A new portable Handsfree kit for use with mobile telephones has been intro- duced by Swedish based Allgon Mobile AB. The Portable Handsfree kit can be installed in any car in just ten seconds say the manufacturer. The unit comes as a complete kit with operating and charging unit, built-in loudspeaker, gooseneck microphone and cables. The speaker unit and microphone are attached to the headrest of the driver’s seat using a strong elastic strap. Power is supplied from either the vehicle’s cigarette lighter outlet or the phone’s battery. Currently, the Portable HandsFree kit is available for use with Ericsson 97/99/197/198/237/337 telephones, but according to Allgon, other models are under development.

The Allgon Portable Handsfree is said to be the first Hands-free unit on the market that requires no fixed installation. Instead, it can be simply moved between vehicles or be used as a portable loudspeaker telephone for conference-calls.





The unit is simply attached to the headrest of the driver’s seat using a strong elastic strap. In this
position, both the microphone and loudspeaker are placed at a convenient distance from the user’s mouth and ear.
The phone is then connected to the hands-free unit and a suitable power source, preferably the vehicles cigarette lighter outlet, using the system cable supplied and an Ericsson original charger unit.
The Ericsson microphone is said to be so sensitive that even passengers can take part in a conversation without speaking directly into the mouthpiece. Volume adjustment is made using the arrow buttons on the telephone.
By separating the microphone and loudspeaker from the mobile telephone, interference is greatly reduced. Another advantage is that there is no ambient noise from the speaker while the phone is not connected. The recommended retail price is said to be approximately 60% that of a conventional Handsfree unit due to the fact that the installation costs are eliminated.
