Responding to strong Asian demand for its economical "just in time" kraft paper packaging systems, US supplier Ranpak Corp. has opened a new regional sales office in Singapore.

"Kraft paper packaging has many advantages over petrochemical-based polystyrene 'bubbles,' 'peanuts' and 'pellets," states Mr. Fong Woon Yim (William Fong), the company's new General Sales Manager for the Asia/Pacific
region. "Versatility is one. The key is the converter, which turns rolls of multi-ply kraft paper into PadPak cushioning material that can be used for all the most common packaging applications, such as wrapping, blocking, bracing and
void-fill. Produced on-site, as needed, this packaging uses 10-15 percent less material, which can reduce carton size and shipping costs substantially."
A single pallet of PakPak paper yields as much packaging as 107 fourteen-cubic-foot bags of polystyrene loose-fill, according to the company, so warehouse space can be reduced by as much as 90 percent. This material is also reusable, recyclable and biodegradable.
The company's converters make packaging suitable for protection of heavy, fragile or oddly-shaped products. With available special papers, flame-retardant, static-dissipating and color-imprinted packaging can also be made.
