Metric connectors allow more compact electronic products

Metric connectors allow
more compact electronic
products

GWS Perlos Oy, a Finnish business
enterprise, now complements its
range of inch-based electronic
Euro connectors with components
complying with the new metric
standards. This makes it possible
to increase the number of connections
per surface area unit by 200-300 per
cent. The new compact connectors are
intended primarily for manufacturers
of telephone exchanges, mobile phone
base stations, control and monitoring
equipment and other industrial
electronics.

- We are not aiming at establishing any new standards. Instead, we wish always to offer the latest technology in the connector line with the aid of high quality and great flexibility in manufacture and by cooperating closely with the customers, says director Andreas Tallberg of the Connector Unit of GWS Perlos Oy.
The company reckons that the share of metric connectors will grow rapidly, so that by the year 1997 it will be 15-20 per cent of the company's production. However, the broad range of inch-based connectors will remain in production for the near future.
- Perlos is one of the few manufacturers controlling the whole chain of manufacture, including its own structural design, tool manufacture, injection moulding, die cutting, coating and assembly. In this way we are able to offer a very high level of service, also because we can design and produce connectors for special applications at short notice, Andreas Tallberg points out.

Supplier of the Year

GWS Perlos is one of the few Nordic manufacturers able to offer a large range of connectors for the electronics industry. The company has a quality certificate according to the ISO 9001 standard and delivers connectors to such leading manufacturers of electronic products as Nokia, Ericsson and Philips, to name a few. In the last two years Ericsson Anslutningssystem AB elected the company as Supplier of the Year./ins

Captions: The Finnish GWS Perlos Oy now invests in 2.5 mm and 2.0 mm connectors complying with the new metric system. These allow two and even three times as many contacts per surface area unit as the former DIN connectors based on the inch system.

2) The Joensuu production unit makes about 1 billion contactors a year and its product range contains 2500 different types. To achieve shorter delivery times, the factory has its own structural design, tool manufacture and injection moulding, die cutting, coating and assembly of connector bodies.
