TARGET GAMES AB
Business concept and targets
To provide "creative entertainment" by developing, manufacturing and marketing games of different types. The company offers both traditional "board games" for children and adults, card games, figure and role games, and, increasingly, PC and video based games.
Brief history
The company was founded in 1980 by Klas Berndal and Fredrik Malmberg. Initially, it concentrated on import of foreign games. In 1980 the first store was acquired, called "Tradition". The publishing business was started in 1982 as the role game "Drakar & Demons" was introduced. The marketing of family games started in 1988 under the brand name "Casper", which, among others, include titles like Rappakalja, Galenpanna and Brainstorm. In 1990 exports began to the Scandinavian countries. In 1992, Target Games started to develop and license its own fantasy worlds ("Mutant Chronicles") and selling the rights for comics, films, books and games. The "Tradition"-stores were sold in 1994-1995 in order to focus on the publishing business. In 1996 the company started to concentrate on PC and TV games, which is expected to expand its international business.

The product range includes games for children, adults and families. The "Casper" family game series includes approximately 30 titles, with a constant updating of new titles. The titles include a number of well-known games, i.e. Rappakalja (Game of the Year in Sweden 1990, Game of the Year in Norway 1992), Maestro (Game of the Year in Sweden 1992) and Brainstorm (Game of the Year in Norway 1991 and in Denmark 1992). The game Warzone was named "Best Miniature Game" at the Origins 96 Fair. The company's operations also includes sales of licences, for example of the fantasy worlds and the role game Mutant Chronicles. In 1996, the historical game "Svea Rike" will be introduced, which will be sold both as a game and as PC game. The card game Doomtrooper is available in 16 languages and recently exceeded 130 million sold cards.
