New clamp system speeds installation and adjustment of conveyor skirt rubber

PRESS RELEASE

New clamp system speeds
installation and adjustment
of conveyor skirt rubber

With the new Flex-Lok skirt clamp system from Flexible Steel Lacing Company (Flexco), one person can install and adjust conveyor belt skirt rubber quickly and easily with a few taps of a hammer. The system, the manufacturer says, also reduces spillage, speeds maintenance and eliminates the stripped threads, seizure and breakage associated with threaded bolt-type fasteners.

Designed for bulk material-handling operations such as mining, quarrying, minerals-processing and waste recycling, the system replaces threaded fasteners with wedged cotter pins and specially-designed clamp plates that slide along a steel runner for adjustment. The cotters can be rotated to the best angle for hammer strokes in confined spaces.
Because of the system's speed and simplicity, adjustments may be made more often without interfering with normal operating schedules. Frequent adjustments help minimize spillage and slows buildup around transfers and pulleys, reducing tracking problems and the need for clean-up and repairs to pulley shafts and bearings. No wrenches or other special tools are needed for either installation or adjustment, and there is no need to pre-cut bolt-attachment slots into the rubber. The system is designed for use with any standard skirt rubber material 8 to 16mm thick and 102 to 203mm wide.
Each Flex-Lok segment consists of a specially-designed 6-foot-long runner and restraining bar, four clamp plates and four clamp pin assemblies. End caps and top closure strips are provided to help prevent dirt or dust buildup inside the runner. After runner and pin assemblies are installed, plates are loosely mounted on their pins and the restraining bar set in place. Special locking devices hold the bar to the end clamp plates while skirt rubber is set in place. Tapping the cotters completes installation.
Adjustments may be made at any time by tapping the cotters in reverse to loosen, repositioning the rubber, and tapping the cotters again to tighten. For unusually heavy load sites, additional clamp plates may be set along the runner as needed.
