New solution combines Speedglas welding and safety helmet functions

Using separate safety and welding helmets is felt by many to be heavy and awkward. Hörnell International is launching this spring a new solution that specifically combines these two products. It is based on the Speedglas 9000 automatic anti-dazzle welding helmet. The securing arrangement that permits the automatic welding helmet to be used together with an existing safety helmet relies on a newly-developed locking mechanism.

At certain work sites, such as in steelworks, shipyards and mines, welders are obliged to wear safety helmets. "Some companies have definite problems with the use of safety and welding helmets together," says Anders Grönberg, Product Manager of Hörnell International. We have developed a linking mechanism that allows the welding helmet to be placed over the safety helmet and locked into place. This makes the welding helmet easier to use, and it is also easier to get it to stay on properly. The new solution provides a better balance when the welding helmet is in its raised position.
"Protective equipment that is uncomfortable or hard to se often remains unused," continues Anders Grönberg. "Sometimes welders have therefore used conventional eye and face protection. This new solution means that automatic welding glass can be used, offering better protection."
