Tailor-made plastic transport packagingto provide better overall economy

A range of reusable plastic transport packaging now being launched can be tailor-made to suit the user. Its thin walls increase the available internal volume, and the packaging can be folded flat using hinges. According to the Swedish manufacturer Nefab RePak AB the design reduces in size by 80% when collapsed, resulting in decreased return costs. In combination with the increased internal volume and greater load capacity, this will provide better overall economy than other plastic-based packaging alternatives. A pallet collar also made of plastic is being launched at the same time, this being a hygienic material that neither generates dust nor other particles. These products are thus suitable for environments with high standards of cleanliness.

"Conventional reusable plastic transport packaging is only manufactured in standard sizes, whilst our products can be adapted to meet the requirements of clients and users," says Tommy Pudas, Business Development Manager. "The thin walls ensure the packaging has low weight, but at the same time provide a stable design, as load testing has proved. The packaging withstood 100kN compression loading along with vibration and drop tests without incurring damage."

This transport packaging, called RePak TE Plastic and P Plastic, can be tailor-made, either based on the product dimensions or by adaptation to the container or vehicle, which is claimed to reduce logistical costs.

"Folded flat, the TE Plastic version is only 235 mm high, considerably lower than available competitive standard products," continues Tommy Pudas.

For a standard 1200 x 1000 mm pallet size and a height of 1080 mm this means that every fourth fully loaded truck can be eliminated, as can 2 out of 5 trucks loaded with return packaging.
"This naturally has a positive effect on the economics," affirms Tommy Pudas.

Easy to clean
The packaging can be filled and emptied both from the top and the sides. The smooth walls are easy to clean, and the material does not generate any fibres or chips.

"Our packaging has many applications, among others in the automotive industry," Tommy Pudas goes on. "It is also suitable for the chemical, food products and pharmaceutical industries, and can be produced in various colours.

The wall thickness is 12.0 mm and the material is claimed to have strong resistance to chemicals, being able to stand temperatures between -30 and +60 degrees C.

The new stackable pallet collar RePak P Plastic is 300 millimetres high. This is made of a plastic material that is of low weight while being resistant to bending. The collar can be adapted to all pallet sizes.
