New from Nokia17 inch picture in a 15 inch screen

Monitor manufacturer Nokia Display Products is just launching the 500Xa, a 15" flat monitor. The screen has an image area of 15.1 ", which is comparable with the active image area of a conventional 17" screen.

"Despite the large image area, the screen is very compact. It makes it easy to move and position," says Monika Gustavsson, PR and Marketing Manager at Nokia Display Products.

Nokia employs active-matrix TFT LCD technology. This means that every individual dot forming the picture can be turned on and off with its own transistor. It improves the screen's ability to transmit light, and there are none of the ghost images that are common in passive-matrix LCD technology.

The screen has a maximum resolution of 1024 x 768 and can reproduce 16.7 million colours. It has a viewing angle of 120 degrees horizontally and a contrast ratio of 300:1. The 500Xa is equipped with speakers and a microphone.

Navi Key function
The screen has Nokia's special Navi Key function, which is a combined button and knob on the front of the monitor. It is used to access the whole on-screen menu. The menu is displayed directly on the screen, and Navi Key is used to make the screen settings.

VESA mounting interface
A wall bracket for the Nokia 500Xa is available as an accessory, making the monitor one of the first to follow the new VESA wall mounting standard.

TCO-95 approval
The 500Xa is approved in accordance with TCO-95. This guarantees high picture quality, viewing ergonomics and damped fields. To be approved the monitor must also be energy-efficient and meet tough environmental demands, both in manufacturing and use.

Distribution of the 500Xa will begin during the spring. Nokia guarantees the monitors for three years.
