Facing up to the Revolution in Telecommunications
Least cost routing is one of the keys to successful competition in increasingly open telecommunications markets world-wide. This is why VikingTelecom has launched its CallCorrect least cost router onto the world market.
Planned liberalisation of telecommunications in 1998, particularly Europe, will create greater competition in the market as a whole. Viking's CallCorrect is a device that allows new and existing telecom players to offer their customers effective and economic solutions to their telecom needs.Essentially, the unit can route calls over alternative operator networks. During dialling, it can recognise those calls that should be routed over alternative networks and adds the appropriate prefixes to allow this to take place. The caller is unaware that this is going on.
The company's approach to the development of the least cost router was to create a competitively priced device that could offer a complete range of basic functions such as direct routing, central remote management, fast dialling features, full status indications, over-voltage protection, fallback to alternative carriers and that it is easy to install and operate.
Simplicity
This simplicity also applies to reprogramming the router. New routing tables and other call control information can be remotely downloaded to each device. Where a location has several units installed, the company's racking system allows all units to be updated with a single telephone call. The racking system, based on eight units per rack, makes expansion up to 32 routers a simple procedure.
Such features have already made the least cost router a
success in the Swedish market, explains Göran Nordlund, one of the company's founders.
- Our aim is to become one of the leading players in Europe, he says.
Its products are designed to meet forthcoming European standards in the telecommunications industry in addition to meeting tecnical requirements of local markets.
- In addition, the company's products are designed and manufactured to an ISO-type quality assurance process that is constantly monitored, says Göran Nordlund.
Viking Telecom, set up in 1988, has already become established in Sweden as a supplier of own brand and oem (original equipment manufacturers) PBX, caller identification systems and fax switches for the small office market in addition to its development of the CallCorrect router. The company has experienced rapid growth with sales expected to rise from £2m to £6m in the current financial year.
