New protective masks for professional users and home use
There is now a new generation of protective masks to cover most needs; from sporadic DIY use, to daily use in more dangerous environments. The wall-to-wall product program consists of three types of half mask. The same gas and particle filters can be used for them all. According to their manufacturer, Sundström Safety, Sweden, these new protective masks are characterised by high protective power and a perfect fit.
"It’s not enough for a protective mask to be safe. It must also be comfortable, otherwise it will often stay unused," thinks company Marketing Manager, Ivan Sundström.The yellow thermoplastic mask (SR 75) is simple, and intended for DIY enthusiasts or professionals who occasionally use a protective mask for short periods, and whose work is not physically strenuous.
Professional users
The green thermoplastic mask (SR90-2) is intended for professional users who frequently wear protective masks for relatively long periods, e.g. chimney sweeps, spray painters, and farmers.
"The target group for the top model, the blue silicone mask (SR 100), is people who often use protective masks and have higher requirements," says Ivan Sundström. "We have striven for a perfect fit so the user doesn’t feel any strain. The filter has been lowered so as not to limit the vision, and the inside of the mask is shaped to minimise the amount of carbon dioxide."
At the moment, many people take off the protective mask and leave it in a polluted environment, with resulting deterioration in protective power.
The green and blue masks come in two sizes and have double exhalation valves, that make exhaling easy and combat condensation.
"They also have a new membrane with an edging seal to combat leakage, reduce resistance to exhalation and make it easier to talk through the mask," Sundström explains.
All models of mask can be supplied with a hood and have a new strap which means the mask sits better, for example if a helmet is being used. All masks have their functions tested by the company before delivery.
Sundström Safety AB is increasing its investment in the EU market and is therefore seeking further retailers.
