An uncoated SBS board called Ensocard, designed to meet environmental challenges and offer uniform printing quality is being introduced by Enso Paperboards. It is the latest addition to the company's graphic and packaging board family that also includes Ensocoat, Ensogloss and CTMP-based Enso Performa.

"We are offering to our active and creative customers a novel board which provides genuine paper surface on both sides," says Sales Director Yrjö Aho of Enso Paperboards. "As Ensocard is produced in a wide range of basic weights - from 170 to 350 gsm - this board is an option worth considering for all graphic and packaging enduses."
It is manufactured at the Imatra Mill from bleached sulphate pulp, in order to guarantee its high mechanical strength and purity.

High quality
The new board has applications for high quality packages - such as boxes for cosmetics, alcoholic beverages and gifts. In the area of graphic boards, applications of Ensocard could also include maps and files.
Prior to the official launch, the Finnish board manufacturer worked with Atelier Albrecht of Frankfurt which designed the Asbach Uralt gift package. Manufactured by Gustav Stabernack GmbH of Germany this won the 'Worldstar of Packaging Award 1997'. Ensocard was chosen because of its convertability and unique printing surface.

Continued quality investment
In addition to the new board quality, the company is committed to ensuring the future for Ensocard, with an emphasis on quality. At the end of this year an FIM 115 million (USD 23 m) investment will be made to upgrade the production of Ensocard. "This will raise also BM 1's (Board Machine 1) capacity by 10,000 tonnes", says Seppo Karine, Production Manager. "Our aim is to ensure that we not only stay Number One in the world quality-wise, but also remain a benchmark against which other manufacturers of uncoated SBS measure their performance. In addition, the board performs well with various converting methods", says Karine.
