Process controller for ultrasonic plastics assembly
PRESS RELEASE
June 14, 1996
Dynamic Process Controller
increases quality and efficiency
of ultrasonic plastics assembly
Ultrasonic assembly of thermoplastics is
more accurate, consistent and controllable with the new high-speed, self-contained Dynamic Process Controller (DPC), the manufacturer, Dukane Ultrasonics, reports.
"Superior results are achieved," says
Mr Frank Link, Dukane Ultrasonics president, "because the DPC programs and regulates all assembly cycle parameters and processes more data faster -- 1000 times per second -- than other process controllers currently available. It is particularly useful for controlling processes such as welding, staking, swaging, spot welding, inserting, degating, cutting and sealing."
Combining the generator, process controller and multiplexer
network into a single unit, the DPC uses a powerful 32-bit RISC microprocessor to sample cycle parameters such as time, energy, distance, peak power, force, velocity, frequency and amplitude 1000 times per second. It is available in 350 and 700 watts for 40kHz systems, and in 500, 1000, 1500 or 2000 watts for 20kHz systems.
The unit is compatible with all current Dukane presses, thrusters and probes, including its new narrow-profile thrusters. It can also be interfaced with the company's new Man-Machine Interface (MMI) visual display/programmer, which puts all control and input commands into a compact touch-screen that uses intuitive menus and prompting commands for adjusting the setup, accessing quick-glance diagnostics and entering and viewing process data.
"The DPC is," says Mr Link, "the latest development in more than 25 years of ongoing Dukane research that has enabled the company to advance ultrasonics technology by introducing innovations such as dual pressure welding, weld by distance, hydraulic speed control and a rugged linear ball slide assembly."
The company's broad product line also includes a Cutting & Quilting system that can "sew" synthetic fabrics without use of a needle and thread; 20- and 40kHz hand-held probe systems for use when it is more convenient to bring the ultrasonics to the part, rather than the part to the ultrasonics; the SRT-50 Rotary Parts Handling System
(a space-saving, self-contained system which can be
operated economically as a semi-automatic or manual machine), and 20- and 40kHz Narrow Profile Thruster Systems for single- or multi-head systems where standard column mounting is not preferred or used.
The DPC and other Dukane Ultrasonics systems and components will be exhibited at Interplas '96 in Birmingham, England, Booth# 4260, November 10-11, 1996.
Dukane Ultrasonics, a global leader in ultrasonic technology, is headquartered in St. Charles, Illinois, USA. The company maintains a worldwide sales, distribution and service network./ins
