Case for data-communicators
A new type of mobile telephone case has been developed by the Swedish company Brodit Plast. The case is intended for the combination of portable computer and mobile telephone, known as Nokia 9000 data-communicator, now coming on to the market.
The data-communicator is placed in the case exactly like a conventional mobile telephone. But there is also a flap which can be opened to provide access to the computer, and then hook on the communicator held in the case.
‘It is an extra function which makes it simple to use with the computer in the car’, says Brodit Plast Managing Director Ebbe Johansson. ‘Because of the rapid expansion of e-mail and the Internet, we believe that data-communicators are going to become established on the market. So our cases will become a sought-after accessory’.
The new case is sold under the trade-name Professional and, like most other cases in the series, is made of black ABS plastic. The case is tailored for various models of car and instrument panel designs.
In addition, the company buys an example of each new mobile telephone that comes out and tests it to ensure adaptability.
Easy to fit
Fitting is easy and leaves no marks or holes in the instrument panel.
‘You just have to snap it on the dashboard’, says Johansson.
The fitting is also safe. All ‘Professional’ cases are crash-tested at the Swedish National Road Research Institute.
Wide range
Since it started in 1983, Brodit Plast has continuously supplied the vehicle industry and dealers with cases for new vehicle models. The range is very wide — there are now some 650 models of case available, and new ones are being developed all the time as new vehicle models come onto the market.
‘We have a close relationship with most vehicle importers, which means we can usually supply a case at the same time as a new model is launched’, Johansson explained.
Rapid expansion
Since GSM technology made its breakthrough in about 1990, the company has expanded rapidly and now has a turnover around SEK 46 million. Some 75% of production goes for export to 25 countries in Europe and the Middle East.
Links have recently been established with the Norwegian company ABM Communications, in order to attack the US market./ins
