Flow meters measure ultra-pure
liquids or slurries accurately
Two new ultrasonic flow meters from Panametrics accurately measure media, ranging from ultra-pure liquids to gas/liquid and suspended solids mixtures, the company reports. The DF868 flow meter and XMT868 transmitter, are based on established ultrasonic flow measurement methods, but employ advanced sensing and signal conditioning techniques that allow them to be used on applications as diverse as semiconductor manufacture and sewage treatment.
Non-invasive flow sensing, coded signal correlation and a proprietary technique which takes rapid ultrasonic images of the flow, suit these instruments to a wide range of difficult flow measurements, Panametrics states. Such applications are characterized by large diameter pipes, temperature extremes, ultra-pure liquids and complex flow media, which preclude many other measurement methods. Waste water and sewage treatment; pulp and paper slurries; fossil-fuel, nuclear and hydroelectric power generation flows, are just some of the applications covered.
Measurement of ultra-pure, cryogenic, and high temperature flows over 260°C, has significance in pharmaceutical and semiconductor manufacture as well as in medical and industrial applications. An energy measurement function is incorporated for heating and cooling applications; and a two channel feature can be used for measuring two separate flows, or alternatively measuring net total flow upstream and downstream.
An explosion proof housing for Class 1, Division 1 areas is standard on the XMT868 and is optionally available on the DF868.
Model DF868 is based on the company's Vaaler Award winning PT868 portable ultrasonic flow meter. Both meters have comprehensive signal processing and communication capabilities, while the XMT868 is designed primarily for applications where economy is a priority.
Panametrics Inc., located in Waltham, Massachusetts, USA, designs and manufactures analytical and measurement instrumentation for flow measurement, gas analysis and non-destructive testing. The company was registered to ISO 9001 in 1994./ins
