Stala Oy is a leading European manufacturer of stainless steel tubing. The company, which is based in Lahti, Finland, also manufactures stainless steel sinks and complete refuse sorting systems for kitchens. The company’s 1997 turnover is expected to be approx. FIM 190 million of which stainless steel tubes and hollow sections will account for 80 per cent of sales. The company has 120 employees and is owned by the family of its founder, Reino Rajamäki, and members of the management team.

Brief history
Stala Oy was founded in 1972 in Lahti, Finland. Originally, the company manufactured stainless steel sinks and professional kitchen equipment. Manufacture of square tubes and hollow sections began in 1975 and has progressively become the company’s mainstay product area. Today, Stala Oy is mainly known for its large diameter square and rectangular hollow stainless steel sections.

Products
The company manufactures hollow square sections in dimensions between 20 x 20 mm and 150 x 150 mm and rectangular hollow sections of between 30 x 20 mm and 200 x 100 mm. These are made from austenitic stainless steel AISI 304, AISI 304L and AISI 316, AISI 316L and AISI 316Ti. Other qualities are available on request. The hollow sections are mainly used in load bearing applications within the construction, foodstuffs, petrochemical and process industries, and in vehicle manufacturing. The company also manufactures stainless steel sinks and complete waste sorting systems for kitchens.

Organization and market
Stala Oy has its headquarters in Lahti, Finland and production facilities in Lahti and Moerdijk, Holland. The company’s output capacity is more than 12,000 tons per year of which the company’s Finnish operation contributes approx. 65 percent. In total, the company exports around 95 per cent of its total production. The main export markets are Scandinavia, Germany, Benelux, Great Britain, the United States and South East Asia.
