Established in 1983, SinterCast has developed, manufactured, and now markets a patented process control system for sampling, measurement, analysis and adjustment of metal smelting, especially for the production of SinterCast Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI).

The process enables the solidification behaviour of the melt to be determined by thermal analysis of a small sample taken from the melt. The analysis determines which corrections need to be made of the melt so that the casting will have the narrowly specified microstructure.

Among the industries in which compacted graphite iron is of major commercial interest is vehicle manufacture.

Between 1983 and 1991, the company concentrated on the technical development of the process. Marketing of the SinterCast process began in 1993.

The SinterCast Group consists of SinterCast AB (quoted on the "O-list" of the Stockholm Stock Exchange), and its wholly-owned subsidiaries:

SinterCast Holding BV owns all shares in SinterCast International Ltd, Eire (formed 1991) and SinterCast KK, Japan (formed 1994).

In July 1995, total staff was 37.

In 1994/95 financial year, total company capital was SEK 158.5 million, of which SEK 3.4 million was share capital. Some 80% of the 3.4 million shares are controlled by British institutional investors and approx 7% by company management and Board of Directors.
