Opening of Ruukki’s new sales office in Mumbai, India

Special steels producer Ruukki has been providing solutions for its partners in 30 countries, and continues to take steps in the Indian market. Ruukki has had a presence in Mumbai since 2011, and now has a new sales office there which will open on 14 June 2012. Ruukki provides special steel products and solutions to Indian and international customers operating in India.

Ruukki’s focus in India is on sales of high-strength Ruukki Optim and wear-resistant Ruukki Raex special steels for customers in transportation as well as in construction and mining equipment manufacturing.

“Although Europe is our home market, we are also expanding into growth markets such as India. The growing construction and mining industries in these markets are increasing the demand for special steel products, which is why we want to strengthen our special steels sales network here. We have been present in India through Steelforce, which also stocks Ruukki’s special steels, and will continue our long-term cooperation in this respect. Our approach is to be close to our customers to ensure we give them fast service and that we are easily accessible to help them find solutions for their applications,” says Sharad Rastogi, Ruukki’s Country Manager, India.

Raex steels are used in wearing parts of construction and mining machinery and can help to decrease the repair cost of equipment. The lifetime of an excavator bucket made of Raex wear-resistant steel can be about 2 or 3 times longer than a similar bucket made of standard steel. In applications that require increased payload, the use of wear-resistant Raex and high-strength Optim steels can reduce the thickness of steel and the weight of the tipper bodies by 20%. Use of special steel products can reduce weight and noticeably cut fuel costs and CO2 emissions.

Sustainability underpins Ruukki’s entire supply chain. Ruukki is a technological leader in its field. We have worked hard to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions for a number of years. Ruukki has achieved the position of industry leader in two Dow Jones Sustainability indexes: DJSI World and DJSI Europe. These indexes include the top companies that are committed to sustainable development.
