Innovative cladding breaks technology barriers

FASEC in Scandinavia has created a new approach to building façade design that offers significant cost and design benefits to the building industry. The company believes that its concept has considerable growth potential world-wide.

The Fasec Facade System is based on wood composite sheeting and synthetic coating. It is a quick-to-install and attractive alternative to traditional approaches for both for new buildings and renovation of old facades.

The wood composite sheeting material incorporates foamed resin binder that combines lightweight, weighing only 2.4 kg per sq.m, with toughness. It can be used with either steel or wood frames and offers a ventilated construction that removes moisture. Due to the framed construction principle, the systems offers flexible design and allows insulation to be added in renovation projects. The cost of re-cladding old walls can also be carried out at a lower cost than competing solutions with the benefit of improving the wall insulation values.

A timber frame house can be made to look like masonry construction at half the cost of traditionally built facades, notes Mikael Blomqvist, managing director. It is also a flexible design system, which allows architects to apply their aesthetic judgement to the design.

Stable and simple
The FASEC composite is very stable and can be finished with a thin, two-coat coating which enables exterior walls to have a finish that resembles rendered blockwork without seams. The system has been designed to be fast to install. “The exterior wall of a typical one family house can be done in three days, says Blomqvist.

Proven design
A significant number of constructions have already been completed incorporating the Fasec system in the U.S and Europe, making it a proven technology points out Blomqvist.

Blomqvist believes that FASEC’s technology can be applied to many local markets worldwide. It can supply all the components, technology and training to support future partners. Established in 1998, FASEC operates in the US through its subsidiary, Facades Inc. and throughout Scandinavia.

Fasec Oy major shareholders include Selvaag Gruppen AS, a Norwegian investment, building materials and construction company; and Ivarsson A/S of Denmark, the leading supplier of facade sheeting in Scandinavia. Current markets include Finland, Denmark, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the USA.

Technical details façade panels
The Fasec Facade System is based on combining a wood composite sheeting, a base coat reinforced with a glass fiber mesh and a finish coat, which is available in a wide range of colors.
The production process for the Fasec wood composite sheeting starts with a high-quality wood fiber, which is foamed with a resin binder. During this process the wood fibers are formed into a grid structure.

The raw materials are treated in a continuous pressing line, where the product obtains the strength and weather resistance properties inherent to composite sheeting. After pressing, the board is sawn into panels with standard dimensions, ready for delivery.
