New durable castors with high rollability
A new type of castor, specifically designed for trolleys used in hospitals, rehabilitation centres, institutional kitchens, department stores and similar premises, has been developed by the Finnish castor manufacturer Manner Ltd. The castor is characterised by silent running, low rolling friction and modern design. The so-called Tango castor is manufactured predominantly of plastic materials which provide good corrosion resistance and durability. The design facilitates easy cleaning.
A castor may seem simple from a technical point of view. But for people using trolleys on a daily basis, such as waiters, nurses and shoppers, castors have an important role to play. They must roll smoothly, be silent and easy to clean - and preferably be of good design.- There are castors and castors, says marketing director Jukka Manner. Our new transportation castor is well suited for environments where moisture is present, for example in the food processing industry and in hospitals. Plastic materials make for silent running, easy manoeuvrability and convenient cleaning.
The castor can be supplied with or without a brake. It features both a braking and a brake -release mechanism. The brake simultaneously locks the castor and the action of swivelling. The brake pedal prevents skidding and is shorter than the turning radius of the castor, thus avoiding contact damages to people and equipment in the immediate vicinity.
Currently, there are Tango castors with a diameter of 125 mm. Castors with a diameter of 100 mm will be introduced by the end this year.
The castor is easy to install thanks to three alternatives which comprise the threaded stem, top plate or tube expander mounting. Castors are equipped with either an elastic rubber tread or a tread of soft or hard thermoplastic.
The Tango castor is the result of a long process of product development, whereby, among others, the University of Art and Design in Finland has contributed to fulfil the demands of modern design and functionality.
- We have adopted the very latest information technology in terms of design and manufacturing techniques, says Veikko Savolainen, product designer at Manner.
Manner is a family-owned company. Their products comply with the ISO 9001 quality standard. The company is a leading manufacturer of high-quality castors in the Nordic countries. The company's product range comprises castors from an extensive selection of furniture products to castors for specific applications, such as those required for heavy loads.
