New inkjet printheads expand size and resolution capabilities
Inkjet printhead systems featuring patented piezoelectric impulse technology are now available in a broader range of sizes and resolution capabilities. By introducing the smaller MicroCoder and higher resolution PixelJet printing subsystems, Trident International, Inc., has expanded the possible uses of the technology the company originated with its UltraJet printing subsystems.
"These new printheads will bring the cost, quality and reliability advantages of piezoelectric impulse technology to users who have previously relied on other technologies including continuous inkjet systems," said Elaine Pullen, Trident president and CEO.The piezoelectric impulse inkjet systems have virtually no moving parts
and do not require the pumps, valves, hardware and consumable parts associated with other inkjet technologies. Piezoelectric crystals are electrically triggered, propelling miniature ink droplets onto the printing surface through precise orifices half the diameter of a human hair.
The new PixelJet printhead subsystems incorporate a high resolution 64-channel printhead with either one orifice per channel and maximum character height of 11.4 mm, or two orifices per channel producing
near-letter-quality alphanumerics and graphic images up to 22.8 mm tall. The higher resolution enables printing of Japanese and other Asian characters, as well as printing of multiple lines of labeling information
and higher quality graphics on cartons and packages.
The new MicroCoder system uses a single 16-channel printhead with two orifices per channel to produce alphanumeric images 5.85 mm tall in a two-line print capability. Applications for this product include printing dates and serial numbers on food and cosmetic packaging and pharmaceuticals and manufactured parts; and postal barcoding.
The company‚s UltraJet printheads are used worldwide by over 60 manufacturers of printing systems serving the bar-coding (POSTNET, UPC and other symbologies), check canceling and direct mail addressing markets.
Trident International, Inc., headquartered in Brookfield, Connecticut, USA, provides its proprietary inkjet technology, ink delivery subsystems, inks and
electronic interface boards to original equipment manufacturers worldwide. UltraJet, PixelJet and MicroCoder are trademarks of Trident International, Inc.
