New generation of fans for demanding industrial environments

The next generation of HC fans is now being launched. According to the manufacturer these will set a new standard for centrifugal fans operating in severe industrial conditions. The fan maker, ABB Fläkt Industri AB in Sweden, has made this range more compact and stable, with fewer parts than previous generations. This reduces vibration and the amount of space they take up. To simplify the purchasing process, HC fans are supplied complete with the most commonly used accessories, which also keeps purchasing costs down.

"The new fans are particularly suitable for industrial use, with its strict demands on wear resistance, vibration damping and space saving," says Patrik Nilsson, Sales Manager for ABB Fläkt Industri in Växjö, Sweden, where the HC fans are manufactured.
The steel, paper, pulp and offshore industries are examples of such environments. Certain processes generate large volumes of hot and corrosive gases, that must be removed quickly and safely. Some gases also contain dust particles, which cause fans considerable stress and wear.
"The fans may be either direct or belt-driven. Each fan is supplied complete with a steel frame base, vibration damper, inspection hatch, drain and a plain brass shaft seal as standard," continues Patrik Nilsson. Previously, the customer had to specify and order such accessories separately.

Simpler and cheaper maintenance
The new belt drives do not need post-tensioning. This reduces the amount of maintenance, while also reducing the risk of wear and overheating due to slip. The belts are manufactured by a process that produces minimum waste, which is environmentally positive. The belts do not generate dust during operation, and will in future be recyclable. The bearings are of the pop-release type, and thus easy to change, which reduces down-time during bearing changes.
The temperature tolerance level has been raised to 200ºC for the direct-driven fans, by means of a non-rotating heat shield that protects the motor bearings.
There is a wide choice of impellers, to suit most applications, from ventilation systems to exhaust gas evacuation.
A product catalogue and a fan selection program that runs under Windows have been developed and can be ordered from the manufacturer.
