AEC design software for building and infrastructure

PRESS RELEASE
June 3, 1996
AEC software that increases building
and infrastructure design efficiency now broadly available to international users

Architecture, Engineering and Construction computer software, developed by USA based Softdesk Inc., and used by major USA corporations like 3M, Exxon and MCDonalds and national and municipal governments, is now broadly available to businesses, government agencies and consumers in worldwide markets. The products increase efficiency in projects as diverse as architectural design and engineering, electrical utility mapping, flood control and simple home improvements. The range includes advanced software suitable for application on large computer networks and simple, programs for home PC users.
Recent projects utilizing Softdesk products include the design of a US$128 million hospital in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and a 10,000 unit housing development by the Brazilian organization CDKC.

The professional product line, Softdesk 7 (S7), a seventh generation development, includes software for building design and engineering, civil engineering and survey, productivity control, and imaging. The building design and engineering package can integrate building construction with mechanical, electrical, heating and other services. It allows editing in plan, elevation and 3-D and archiving of line drawings and microfiche. The civil engineering software permits overlaying of designs with other, gray scale data forms such as satellite film and survey maps.
For the home and retail user, less sophisticated packages are available. Named Drafix and Planix; these Microsoft Windows based programs include home design and architecture, office planning, two dimensional drafting and technical illustration, and mechanical design. Softdesk officials state that concepts produced by these programs can be used as the basis for construction drawings subsequently produced by professional architects and engineers. "Drafix CAD Professional" was chosen as one of the "Top 100 Software Programs of 1994" by USA Windows Magazine.
A key feature of the products is "connectivity." Software is developed so that all the various components can be used in conjunction with each other. A mechanical engineer, for example, can design a ventilation system for the same Softdesk computer plans used in the architect's initial drawings. Softdesk offers a full range of customer support services including direct technical support, software maintenance and consulting services.
Headquartered in Henniker, New Hampshire, USA, Softdesk Inc. is a world leader in the supply of AEC computer application software. It markets its products through a worldwide network of over 600 distributors and resellers, supported by the company's own regional sales/service offices.
