AM General introduces
right-hand drive HMMWV truck

On February 6, 1996, AM General Corporation will officially announce the availability of a right-hand drive, (RHD) version of its High Mobility, Multi-Purpose, Wheeled Vehicle, (HMMWV), at the Asian Aerospace '96, Exhibition in Singapore.
The RHD version is designed to meet armed forces' requirements for light, 4x4, tactical, wheeled vehicles in more than 50 countries worldwide, where civilian and military vehicles are normally equipped with the right hand configuration.

"The new RHD truck enhances the HMMWV's appeal and
operational effectiveness in a large number of our target markets," said Jeffrey C. Wright, AM General's senior vice president of worldwide marketing and strategic planning.
"We have delivered more than 20,000 left hand drive models to about 36 countries outside the USA. The availability of a RHD model will appeal to military customers in substantially more countries," he added.
The RHD configuration has been engineered into the new M998A2 Series, currently being manufactured at AM General's technologically advanced production facility in Mishawaka, Indiana, USA. All RHD vehicles feature the truck's proven mobility, reliability, versatility and fighting capability, and are available in the full range of models: cargo/troop carrier, weapons carrier, ambulance, shelter carrier, and armored variants.
The latest M998A2 Series, now in use by the US Army, represents a significant improvement to the vehicle's original design. Enhancements include: a more powerful 6.5 Litre diesel engine, (turbocharged on some variants);
4-speed electronic, automatic transmission with overdrive; larger brakes: heavier duty suspension and drive-line components; improved operator and crew seating; and an increased payload rating.
The company has sold more than 140,000 HMMWV trucks
since production began in 1985. A civilian version named
the "HUMMER" is marketed to industrial and commercial customers, and to non-military, government departments worldwide. AM General also re-manufactures and modernizes older generation, M Series, 6x6, 22 ton tactical trucks for the US Army. Headquartered in South Bend, Indiana, the company has been acknowledged as a world-leader in the design, engineering and production of military and special purpose vehicles for more than 50 years./ins
