Better high-pressure fans make
drying of foodstuffs more efficient
In MVR evaporators (Mechanical Vapour Recompression) it is possible to lower investment costs and benefit from a more economical operation. This can, according to Finnish ABB Fläkt Oy be achieved with the company's new Exvel range of high-pressure fans.
The fans can be used, for example, for the production of milk powder, drying of animal feed, sugar, fruit and fish, etc.
Through better aerodynamics in the fan, the company has, in the first development stage, achieved an improvement of up to 10 per cent in pressure increase as well as improving it overall efficiency.
"With the Exvel Turbo you can gain a temperature rise of 7,5 °C in one stage. State-of-art simulation and measurement systems further enable development of the fans and even more efficient alternatives for the future," says Export Manager Göran Tallberg of ABB Fläkt Oy.
Competitive solutions for the pulp and paper industry
The MVR technology is based on a fan or compressor which recompresses vapour from the evaporator. The ABB Fläkt solution, where a fan controlled evaporator is used, is reported to be up to 50 per cent more cost effective than a corresponding compressor-based MVR construction. Due to the simple technology, the new solution is also said to reduce maintenance costs.
MVR evaporators are being used both in sulphite and sulphate processes. In the sulphate process, these evaporators are utilised mainly for pre-evaporation of the liquor. This is a consequence of the high boiling point elevation of sulphate liquor.
A leading deliverer of MVR FANS
In the late 1970s, ABB Fläkt Oy developed MVR based high-pressure fans, the first company in the world to do so. Up to date, more than 200 fans have been installed, mainly in the food, pulp & paper, metal, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. The company is said to be the only one which is capable of delivering package solutions, where the fan, the squirrel-cage motor, and the frequency converter are produced under the same roof.
ABB Fläkt Oy assumes full responsibility world wide for ABB's production of turbo blowers.
"ABB manufactures industrial fans in ten factories in eight countries. Through the Group, the division is represented in 140 countries, which makes customer service and maintenance functions easier. As a deliverer of complete systems, the company can assure the customer that fans, motors, and frequency converters are tested as a complete entity," says Göran Tallberg./ins
