Air filter manufacturer gets breakthrough order from Volvo

PRESS RELEASE
November 14, 1996
Following a breakthrough order from Volvo—
Swedish maker of air filters hopes to become a supplier to the U.S. auto industry.

Camfil Components in Sweden is to supply air filters for car interiors to the Swedish automaker Volvo. The multi-million dollar order represents a breakthrough for the company in an entirely new market sector. A number of large corporations in Europe compete in the market for this type of filter, and demands from the automakers increase steadily.

“Volvo quality reputation is worldwide and is mentioned with great respect by competitors,” says Lennart Schröder, the president of Camfil Components. “This order thus serves as a door-opener to auto manufacturers in the United States as well.”
Volvo places very stringent demands on the effectiveness of interior-air filters, and this order was therefore preceded by careful testing.
Camfil Components has its own research department. It also has wide-ranging experience involving customized filters. Furthermore, it has access to the collective research resources and years of experience in air filtering existing within the Camfil Group
“That was of decisive importance in the fight for this prestigious order,” says Lennart Schröder. “The flexibility of our organization was another positive factor. We are able to rapidly retool production according to the wishes of our customers, and we work actively in the development of products.

Great Market Potential
“In recent years, we have been working the auto-industry market intensively, and we are naturally very happy that it has produced results,” says Lennart Schröder. “The deliveries will be carried out by Borealis at Färgelanda on the Swedish west coast. Borealis is a company that supplies components to Volvo.
The market potential is great. At present, sophisticated air filters can only be found in top-of-the-line cars. In the future, they will very likely be found in all cars. Environmental considerations as well as continuous endeavors by automakers to improve the quality of interior air, and thus make life easier for people suffering from allergies, act together to reinforce demands for high-quality interior-air filters./ ins
