New air-filter system for
Europe's largest clean-room

Swedish company provides
clean air for Scotland

The air filter manufacturer, Camfil, has been awarded the contract to supply Europe's largest clean room, NEC-Scotland, with 13 000 filters. NEC, the Japanese electronics giant, is constructing a new microchip fabrication plant in Livingston, Scotland.
The contract, worth about USD 2.5 million, is the Swedish firm's largest to date.

The manufacture of microchips requires extremely clean air to ensure trouble-free production and high product yields. The Scottish installation includes some 10,000 square meters of Class 1 manufacturing area and 5,000 square meters of Class 10K space. The cleanliness classifications indicate the maximum allowable number of particles 0.5 micron or larger per cubic foot of process air.
The filters will be manufactured at the company's ISO 9001 certified facility in France. Supplies to Scotland begin in December '95 and continue through to March '96.
Camfil, the project's sole supplier for 13,000 clean room filters, has previously supplied ULPA filters for numerous clean room projects around the world. In fact NEC's factory in Kyushu, Japan, is equipped with filters from Camfil's Japanese licensee, Nitta.
