Frode Laursen cut CO2 emissions by 9% in 2021

Frode Laursen’s CSR report for 2021 details a reduction in CO2 emissions for both its transport and warehouse operations while describing the ongoing efforts to achieve its goal of a 35% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030.

The increased use of alternative fuels and deciding to use 100% green power at all locations. These are the main reasons why Frode Laursen was able to cut its total CO2 emissions by as much as 9% in 2021, and thus take a big step closer towards achieving its goal of a 35% reduction in CO2 emissions between 2020 and 2030.

“I am extremely proud that we have managed to cut our CO2 emissions by so much. It is largely due to the impressive efforts of our employees and the excellent cooperation we enjoy with our customers and suppliers,” says Thomas Corneliussen, CEO at Frode Laursen, before continuing:
“Our approach to the green transition, in which we take the lead and find practical solutions where it makes a difference, has been shown to bear fruit.”

The decrease in CO2 emissions covers reductions for both transport and warehouse operations. In 2021, Frode Laursen tripled the number of kilometres that were driven using alternative fuels such as HVO biodiesel, natural gas and biogas, while also making the switch to 100% green power at all its locations. This resulted in an 8% reduction in CO2 emissions for transport, while the reduction for warehouse operations was an impressive 48%.

“We are all waiting for Power-to-X and electric trucks, but it will take a number of years before these technologies can be implemented on a sufficiently large scale to cover heavy transport. The technology is maturing quickly, but the outlook for the infrastructure and capacity which are both required is much longer. While we wait, we have decided to invest in other alternative fuels, so that we can now offer our customers a significant reduction in their carbon footprint,” says Thomas Corneliussen.

New green logistics centre

In 2021, Frode Laursen also started building its first logistics centre according to the company’s ‘Green Warehouse Vision’, which aims to ensure that both construction and operations are as sustainable as possible.

“Even though most of our CO2 emissions stem from transport, we want to make every part of the business as sustainable as possible. It is also for this reason that we decided to switch to green power at all our locations, while all our future logistics centres will be built and run according to our Green Warehouse Vision to ensure the most sustainable solution,” says Thomas Corneliussen, who hopes and believes that Frode Laursen can maintain the pace of green progress in 2022.

“At a time when external factors such as rising gas prices have made the green conversion harder, we have been constantly setting up pilot projects to see how we can transport as much goods as possible while using as little fuel as possible. At the moment, for example, we’re looking at how we can utilise the double-trailer-truck trial scheme, so we can transport more goods with the same vehicle,” says Thomas Corneliussen.

“It’s not certain that we’ll manage to post another 9% reduction in 2022, but no one should doubt our ambition – we really want to lead the way when it comes to the green transition,” says Thomas Corneliussen in conclusion.
