Paperless Recorders Tachometers and Stroboscopes reduce maintenance costs and increase productivity

Paper chart recorders must routinely be replenished with paper and ink, incurring significant material and labor costs. U.S. company Monarch Instrument's range of paperless recorders eliminate paper charts by displaying data on a high resolution, 127mm LCD display, and by storing the data on 89mm floppy disks or PCMCIA memory cards. The company also offers portable, contact/non-contact tachometers, portable and machine vision stroboscopes, complete with sensors. The products have CE marking.

The Data-Chart series of paperless recorders from Monarch combine the capability to measure, record, compute, display and review process signals. The 1200 series is designed for either one or two input channels, and the 3000 series accepts six direct inputs plus six computation channels for a total of twelve channels. Universal inputs include, DC voltage and current, pulse signals, thermocouples and RTD's. The operator interfaces with a key-pad on the DC- 1200 and a touch screen control on the DC-3000. Communications to a PC via an RS-232 serial port on the DC-1200, and RS-232 or RS-485 on the DC-3000, provide set-up, data transfer, review, print and export functions.

Measurement of linear and rotational machinery speed and production rates
The company's portable tachometers measure from 1 RPM to 100,000 RPM, ±0.0001 RPM. These accurate, hand-held, contact and non-contact instruments also can be used to measure Metric and English linear rates. The Pocket-Tach Plus Kit is a 30 function tachometer, rate meter, totalizer and stopwatch. It also measures linear length with the push of a button.
The Phaser-LCD is, the company reports, the number one selling, heavy duty diesel engine tachometer which, with its optional remote optical sensor, can operate up to 1 meter away and 45° from the reflective tape target for safe operation. The optional, remote optical sensors can be hand-held or cabled up to 150 meters to a tachometer read out, and are suitable for all applications. Monarch also offers self powered sensors with a laser light source that will function up to 15 meters from a reflective target and, in some applications, can be used without the reflective tape. The self powered sensors provide a reliable TTL key phase trigger signal to Vibration Data Collectors and FFT Analyzers.

Verifying machinery speed and "stopped motion" viewing of rotating equipment
Stroboscopes permit measurement of RPM when reflective tape cannot be applied to the machinery. They also allow stop motion studies of webs, pulleys, couplings and other rotating equipment to verify alignment, or to inspect for bent or cracked shafts or loose pulleys and couplings.
The Nova-Strobe DB 230 Kit-CE is a portable, high powered Stroboscope with internal, rechargeable batteries, that will operate continuously in excess of 60 minutes in rugged field environments. The product is used worldwide in paper mills; coal mines; the printing, binding and pharmaceutical industries; and in other applications requiring stopped motion studies and accurate RPM measurements. Nova-Strobes can be externally TTL triggered for use with Vibration Data Collectors, or the Self-Powered Sensors can be used to provide an optical key phase trigger for creating a stroboscope timing light for phase shift studies and motion analysis.
Monarch Instrument, located in Amherst, New Hampshire, USA, manufactures and markets its products worldwide. It supports its range of instruments through a network of European stocking distributers, who offer technical support and product demonstrations at the customer's facility.
