Optima Batteries has decided to enter the battery charger market. It has launched the first in a series of products with three other chargers to follow by the middle of 1999.

The RTC 12/7-S, 12V, the first model in the new range, is aimed at charging conventional and recombinant starter batteries. Bengt Hagander, president of Optima Batteries, says; "These chargers are designed to fit conventional batteries, but specifically meet the charging demands of our batteries."

Pre-set programs
The models are equipped with two pre-set charger programs that control the charging cycle according to the type of battery. Fredrik Kempe, Business Development Manager, points out that the charger range has a novel 'duo charger'
concept. "When charging 24 volt applications i.e. two batteries in series, each individual battery is charged independently. This ensures that each battery is charged optimally so preventing an imbalance in the battery pack," he says.
The charger introduction programme will lead to the introduction of two basic types tailored for recharging starter and deep cycle designs. Another feature of the charger is that it is designed to attach directly to the vehicle which the company says is unusual for battery charging systems.
"We are offering a small, lightweight. power efficient charger that offers value for money," Fredrik Kempe comments.
Since its foundation in 1912, the company has built an established reputation in high performance battery technology. As part of the Gylling group, it has its production in the US, Aurora Colorado, as well as a network of distributors world-wide.
