A hydraulic drive system especially for the particular requirements of industrial feeder applications has been launched by Hägglunds Drives in Sweden. The feeder drive is aimed to provide a flexible, economical and easy-to-use system in a single unit tailored specifically to low power users.

Gunnar Ivarsson, Business Area manager at Hägglunds Drives, says the features of the feeder drive system include, ´more control options offering fixed and trimmable speed in addition to the infinitely variable speed solutions, we have today.´
The feeder drive is based on the Swedish company´s Marathon range of hydraulic motors and can cover a wide variety of low power range applications up to 45 kW.
The drive consists of a high torque hydraulic motor and a skid mounted power unit which includes the pump, tank and electrical system. It is an open loop hydraulic system designed for continuous industrial drive applications providing very compact dimensions. Flexible hoses and/or steel pipes connect the motor to the power unit thereby enabling the power unit to be positioned away from the feeder to improve access. A choice of four Marathon motors is available. These motors are radial piston type with a stationary housing and rotating shaft.
The hydraulic drive can provide full starting torque from zero to maximum speed which is a key requirement for feeders, often starting up under full load.
In addition, such drives are insensitive to shock loads which provides reliable operations in feeder applications that are normally subject to high stresses and strains.
