Explosion-proof dust filterwith automatic cleaning during operation

Nederman is launching an explosion-proof modular filter for dry dust, the FilterMax DX. This filter, part of the Dustline series, has a reinforced housing with armour plating and is designed for use in surroundings where such material as aluminium, magnesium or organic dust could cause an explosion. The product series also includes Ex-classified suction arms and fans. The FilterMax Standard is completed by the DX filter that also has a built-in, patented pre-separator, and both models can be cleaned automatically during operation.

The complete filter solution is tailor-made to provide optimal air cleaning in all types of production environment where dry dust or smoke are present, for example in the chemical industry as well as in the food products, cosmetic, pharmaceutical and engineering industries.
"By means of the modular concept we can easily expand the system to suit larger installations according to customer requirements. Each module has a filtering area of 60 square metres and can handle flows of up to 3 500 cubic metres per hour," states Aurel Stan,

Point Extraction Business Area Manager at AB Ph. Nederman & Co. Filtering efficiency is in excess of 99% for 0.3µ.

A filter unit consists of three modules, and several units can be connected in parallel to increase capacity, for example when a plant is being extended. The system is compact and according to the manufacturer only requires two square meters of floor area. It is also claimed to be easy to transport. The rectangular, pocket-shaped filter cartridges are also designed for easy changing.

Patented preliminary separator
Air cleaning takes place with the aid of a pulse-jet system, which fires brief and powerful pulses of air against the filter cartridges, causing the dirt collected on the filter face to fall down into a dirt collector. The pulse-jet system is claimed to be the most efficient compressed air-based cleaning system on the market. The Filtermax Standard also includes a patented preliminary separator. The separator's nozzle increases the speed of the air flow and directs it downwards in the filter chamber. This causes the larger particles to fall into a special dirt collector. The preliminary separator can remove about 60% of all particles larger than 10µ.
"This naturally increases the life of the filter cartridges by reducing the load on the filters," says Alf Jonasson, Point Extraction Product Manager at Nederman.

There are three FilterMax DX and Standard models, capable of flow volumes between 1 500 and 10 000 cubic metres per hour. The system consists of an inlet, pre-separator, filter cartridges, dirt collectors, outlet, pulse-jet system and control unit. Two types of filter cartridge are available; standard cartridges and a PTFE version, which uses a membrane filter material for situations where extreme cleanliness is demanded.

FilterMax DX is E-classified and has grounded and anti-static filter material in accordance with Ex II 2/3D, 125°C.
